BRAND SUBMISSION FORM COMPLICATIONS
Project JUST is a fashion sustainability organization network for fashion brands to join. The current sustainability network submission form involves 2 types of forms directed to 2 types of users:
- recommendation form (user: the brand's friends or enthusiasts)
- brand self-submission form (user: the brand's own employees)
At first glance, it is unclear which types of users the forms are directed towards. After deciding to submit their own brand, the user is led to another page, which then opens to the self-submission form. The brand self-submission form is an external Word Document that is 80 questions long.
For this challenge we focused on the brand self-submission users. Because we wanted to learn more about brands' own sustainability practices, we wanted to create forms that were more usable and accessible for their employees to submit information about their production practices and supply chain.
How might we create a brand submission form for brand employee users that is easy to understand and submit?
Users had problems:
- figuring out which form to submit.
- knowing what brand sustainability information was needed for submission.
- understanding the 80-questions in the external document.
The UX, Data, and Design teams worked together to distill the 80-questions form down into important topics. The teams determined 8 topics to focus on and broke the questions up according to selected topics.
Key Research Takeaways
Submission form testers found that:
the 80-questions word document was too complicated and no one submitted it.
"sustainability" was a broad topic and each team member had different ideas of what it covered.
- most users associated sustainability with supply chain and production.
From these takeaways, the team focused on re-designing the form's Transparency and Traceability questions in a more usable way.
Low-fidelity wireframes were created to ideate about how to design the brand submission form. Low-fidelity wireframes were brought to medium fidelity to figure out whether the form matched the brand image.
UX STRATEGY AND BRANDING
After ideating with multiple wireframes, the UX team created a minimum viable product that was used for testing. The UX team focused our strategy on framing the form to obtain the most useful information from the brand employee users.
At the same time, Project Just is a brand and we had to work within its branding constraints. A User Interface kit was created including matching fonts, colors, typography, and buttons to be used with the wireframe.
The Transparency and Traceability form has a clean interface. Users can input countries in the First Tier level and choose to add more countries at other tiers. Users can also choose to share suppliers' names, and then provide an address. The drop-down arrow is useful if the supplier is already in Project Just's database. If not, the user can input a new supplier.
In the "Documents and Links" box, the user is given a document to upload (if available), and the choice to list any helpful links. Additional links can also be added if the user chooses to include more links.
From our initial UX strategy and tests, we decided to go lean and focus on information that was the most important to provide.
